Jiangsu Province is the most important service outsourcing area in China and has a total of 1346 enterprises with 136.7 thousand employees engaged in outsourcing industry. In 2008, the 1346 outsourcing providers won outsourcing contracts worth over $2.442 billion, of which $ 1.861 billion contracts were performed, accounting for 41.8% and 39.7% respectively of China's total. Among the total 130-million-worth contracts outsourced from offshore, 937 million contracts were performed, ranking first in China as well. Early 2009, Nanjing, Suzhou and Wuxi, three municipal cities of Jiangsu Province were designated as 20 "Chinese National Service Outsourcing Model Cities" by the Chinese central government.
